Dicky de Haan (1953 - Vinkeveen, The Netherlands)
Photography has always played an important role in Dicky de Haan’s life, but of necessity it had to remain a hobby, rather than a profession. That’s not to say that she didn’t take her hobby seriously: whenever the opportunity presented itself, she joined courses and attended master classes. In, 2003, after a career of 25 years in business, Dicky decided to finally follow her heart and enroll as a student in the Academy of Photography in Amsterdam. She hopes to graduate in the course of 2007. Although she has gained experience in all aspects of this art form, her special interest area is illustrative photography.
Dicky has command over both analogue and digital photography, and although she has learned to appreciate the digital art form she is most happy when she can spend a few hours in the dark room creating powerful black and white images.
Her love for landscape photography - in the broadest sense of the word - was nurtured when living in Dublin (Ireland) for 4 years. During this time she had the opportunity to travel the length and breadth of this magnificent country. Photographs of this enriching period were shown at a solo exhibition in Amsterdam in 2005.
Impressions from her many travels are sure to remain an important topic for Dicky. Irish partner John will keep the ties with Ireland and England very strong, as will places like Odessa, Istanbul and New York where their business travel frequently leads them.
Dicky’s talent lies in seeing and capturing the extraordinary in seemingly mundane things. A road crossing, a bowl of fruit, an arrangement of chairs. Once seen through Dicky’s lens, they are never the same again.
