Lalit Kumar (1978, Meerut, India)

Ever since he can remember, Lalit has been spellbound by the power of light and darkness. For him, these are not just atmospheric conditions or demarcations of daytime. Light, darkness and shadow, their go-between, are Lalit’s artistic muses. Spending long hours capturing the different stages and qualities of light during any given day and season, he is on intimate terms with them. From the cool blue morning light to the uncompromisingly bold white mid-day light through to warm auburn twilight, Lalit knows, and experiments with, these free cosmic gifts.

A Master in Fine Art from Delhi College of Art, Lalit brings to photography a range of artistic techniques and influences that provide a unique signature to his works. His experiments have led him to develop his very own technique, which he refers to as polyprintography. An intriguing word, resulting in even more intriguing (semi-)abstract works of art.

Lalit has participated in national group exhibitions and has received various awards. He is also in demand as a designer, with winning entries for e.g. India’s National Commission on Population, the Ananta Development Society and the Delhi Police campaign ‘Against Terrorism’.
