Pradeep Dasgupta (Calcutta, India - 1952)
Pradeep drifted into photography almost by default. Born of sculptor parents who had to struggle to make a living in early post-independent India, he was consciously discouraged from having much to do with the arts. However, in a weak moment his father gifted him a camera - and he was hooked. After working as a copywriter in various advertising agencies, he decided to turn his attention to advertising photography as a profession. Pradeep has handled innumerable big brands. He continues to stay in the profession when many others from his time have dropped out because, he says, "the thrill of the shoot" still lives in him.
Pradeep continued to pursue photography as a means of personal expression. He has received numerous awards such as New York Festival, Asia Pacific Adfest, Clio nominations, Cannes nominations. He has had solo exhibitions in Kolkata and Delhi and participated in numerous group shows of photography, digital art and sculptures in India. His prints are held with various private and corporate collections in India, Europe, South East Asia and the U.S.
He currently lives and works in New Delhi
